Chapters 1-3 due Thursday.
Consider the following statement by Victor.
I had a contempt for the uses of modern natural philosophy. It was very different when the masters of the science sought immortality and power; such views, although futile, were grand: but now the scene was changed. The ambition of the inquirer (scientist) seemed to limit itself to the annihilation of those visions on which my interest in science was chiefly founded. I was required to exchange chimeras (mental illusions) of boundless grandeur for realities of little worth.
Does this statement render Victor more or less sympathetic? What does this quote reveal about Victor's pesonality?

It shows that his mind is set on the old ways of it. It's like the modern version is degrading to the older version. Its like all the masters' work has been shattered. Like it didn't have any recognition for what it showed them. He hates the modern science. He is very opinionated and rooted into the past. He doesn't like change.
He is very opinionated and stron willed. He is rooted in the past and he doesn't like change. Its like the modern scientists didn't even give any recognition to the masters' work. Its like it didn't mean anything. Its like their work made no difference. He hates that.
This is a perfetc example of how Frankenstine is stubborn, opinionated, strong willed, and loves the past. He us rooted into it. He hates change. Its like the masters' work didn't even matter to the modern scientists. He hates that.
This statement shows that Victor is not sympathetic. It shows that he wants to be a scientist because he believes that the modern science is not accurate so he wants to do it his own way. Victor's personality reveals that he is controlling because if anything is not the right way then he will do it by him self.
Frankenstein considers old science instead of modern science because he grew up with Cornelius Agrippa and others, he didn't seem to change his ways of studies. Frankenstein is more old fashion in doing things, and doesn't like change that often.

frankenstein doesn't like change. He considers old science over modern. He not a man for change he likes the old ways of things rather then the new
This statement less sympathetic. He does not like the ways of modern science. He would rather concentrate on the original practices of science, instead of learning about new techniques and ideas. This quote reveals that he does not welcome new things easily, and that he is stubborn and wants things his way.
This doesn’t change how I feel about Victor; I think he is a power hungry man. I feel he wants to do something monumental with his life and use his back round in science to help him get there.
The statment made by frankenbetty was not sympathic because he still liked the old ways of the ancient scientist and seem a little stubborn and not open minded about learning about modern science.
This quote renders Victor less sympathetic because he is basically changing his mind sets to another world. He talks of how scientist basically are not teaching to their fullest. That makes him sound a little more arrogant and very cocky. Its not a bad thing that he wants to learn more, but the real question is, is it for a good reason? THe quote tells us that victors personality is more of an opinionated kid who loves to expand his knowledge into something more than the natural world.
This statement renders victor less sympathetic because he enjoys the ideas of the older science. He doesn't like the modern science because it contradicts the ideas of the old scientists. The science annihilated those visons that he had much interest in. It reveals that Victor is stubborn, and firmly believes in what he has studied. He opposes the new ideas, and refuses to acknowledge the new. It shows that he prefers the old methods, and doesn't like the coming of new things.
Although Victer was determined to gain knowlege, he was ignorant to modern studies and preferred to embrace studies of ancient authors. He was determined to know the secrets of heaven and Earth. The fact that he loved to learn and embraced the studies of nature interests me. This makes me like him more because he was different. He had his own way of doing things, and he was very curious. However, curiosity sometimes lead to trouble.
I think this statment renders Victor less sympathetic. I think so because he is very opinionated and will say anything he believes. This quote shows that he is an arrogant person.
It shows that he thinks big and wants to do something with his life instead of worrying about the little things. It shows that he thinks the modern ways are, in a way, pointless and are just trying to pick away at the big ideas of the old scientists.
Victor's word are words of truth. I definitely agree with what he said because, scientists of the past did not have as much knowledge as the scientists of today so therfore, they desired to know so much more unlike scientist of today who tend to think "inside the box." scientists of the past thought big and wanted to know so much more and thats what Victor is saying.
I think Victor is a jerk , and very stubborn when he does not think something is right. His idea renders him less sympathic to whats true and whats not. I dont think his stubborness is going to get him far , with an attitude. This quote reveals about Victor's personality is that he is stubborn and selfish.
This quote renders Victor as less sympathetic. He doesn't like what is being done in modern science and prefers the ways of old science. This reveals that Victor is very closed-minded and stubborn because he only sees things and wants them in one way, his own.
I think that victor is too smart for his own good. He wants to pursue for knowlege glory and not for the love it.
I don't feel a lot of sympathy for Victor. If anything I feel pity for him. He is pursuing science that has been thoroughly disproven long before he was born. Even though he blames other for this- his dad's lack of knowledge, his teacher's ugly face- it's still his fault for not listening to those who have really studied those subjects. The way I see it, he didn't listen to his elders, he outright refused to believe them, and set out to prove them wrong. This will lead to his downfall, and he is bringing it on himself.
The statement shows that Victor is not very sympathetic. This passage also shows that Victor is very serious about his work of becoming a scientist but he believes that it is of "little worth" to change his ways.
I would say this quote rendered victor less sympathetic, because it seemed as if he didnt care about modern science or didnt even give it a chance,he acted very stubborn and independent and wants things done his way.
Frankenstein did not like the modern way of doing science. Instead he liked science the old way of doing things. He read a whole bunch of books and learnt how to do things the ways the book showed him. He was completley ignorant to the modern ways. When the modern ways are broght up to him he does not like it. He is oldfashioned and likes things done the old way.
Victor perfers old science instead of modern science. he believes there are many mistakes in modern science and want to test it out his own way. he doesn't believe change is a good thing.
