No, I do not think that Elizabeth fits the role of a typical female in a Gothic novel because she is more calming. She is described as a soothing quiet person.

I do not think Elizabeth fits the role of a Gothic Novel because she is described as a more beautiful figure. Also, her characteristics do not fit the role. Elizabeth is described more as a calming, soothing, and jolly young girl.

Elizabeth could fall into the typical woman in a Gothic nove.l She was in distress and sick. Her mother took care of her and the mothers life was taken. Also Elizabeth has her brother to protect.

Elizabeth does not fit the role of a typical female as a gothic. she is the complete oposite. she seems like an ordinary person.

I do think Elizabeth fits the role of a typical female in a Gothic novel to some extent. In Chapter two, she is described as someone who likes poetry, and doesn't talk as much as her brother.

I think that Elizabeth does not fit the role of a typical gothic female. She is described as a girl with a blond hair and a quiet personality. Elizabeth does not fit the gothic role at all.

I believe that Elizabeth fits the role of a typical female in a Gothic novel, because even though she is not a person of big action. she has a strong personality and she can conquer any task that comes her way.

Elizabeth doesn't fit the role of a typical female in a gothic novel because she is a simple, and pretty girl. She is a happy and ordinary person that enjoys poetry, and was of a calmer disposition.

No,I do not think that elizabeth is a typical female in a Gothic novel because she is very relax and down to earth, and very open to everything and everyone, and has no complaints about anything. In the beginning she is described as a timid and friendly girl, and very quiet, not shallow or scary to the world.

In a way Elizabeth does fit the role of a typical female in a Gothic novel because she is pretty and everyone loves here. Victor feels that he has to protect her like most women in Gothic novels. Although she doesn't comlplain like most women from Gothic novels do.

Yes i do think that Elizabeth fits the role of a typical female in a Gothic novel because women in Gothic novels are supposed to be very girly and sweet. When Alphonose and Caroline first found Elizabeth, she was the oddball among all her brothers and sisters. Unlike the others who all possessed dark features, Elizabeth was fair skinned with golden hair. She is very dainty and delicate. Therefore, i believe Elizabeth possess all the characteristics of women in a gothic novel.

Yes, I think Elizabeth fits the role of a typical female in a Gothic novel because, she is quiet and lovely. she is descibed as this danity little sweet girl and usually these danity and sweet girls are often women in distress because they are not able to defend themselves which is typical of a female in a Gothic novel.

Unknown said...

I agree with Cindy because like some gothic women, they sometimes rely on men to help them through situations and are often in distress, but Elizabeth doesn't show that she needs help from anyone because she tends to herself. So to answer the question I don't think she fits the role of a typical gothic female.

A girl that fits a gothic element is not described as a quiet person. So I think that Elizabeth does not fit the role of a typical gothic girl. The way she is described is the opposite of how a gothic woman is portrayed.

trsryes , I do think that Elizabeth is a typical gothic female because she love poetry and nature and gothic females are girly and she has some of the qualities of a gothic female.

Ok, ladies, let's talk about this in class tomorrow. Don't forget that my use of the word gothic reflects the literary meaning, not necessarily how I looked on Halloween. Remember that gothic novels often restrict female characters to the role of a damsel in distress. The extent to which Elizabeth is calm (as many of you have mentioned) may be a contributing factor but there's more to it than this. It also has less to do with how she looks. If anything, her beauty and fragility make her more vulnerable and therefore more befitting the gothic stereotype.

I think that she will be the typical gothic novel female. she seems like the damsel in distress who needs to be saved.

No, Elizabeth does not seem the typical female in a
Gothic novel. Elizabeth appears to be the calm, pretty, sweet person.

Before Elizabeth was a adopted, she did fit the role of a girl in distress because her foster parent were not wealthy and they couldn't provide for 5 children. When Carolina came along and because she wanted a daughter she adopted Elizabeth. So Elizabeth was saved from her distress life.

i think Elizabeth does fit the role of a Gothic female because she is overly dramatic toward things. for example, when she see's nature she falls in love with it. she acts like everything is so new to her and marvelous.
